Spanish (Castilian Spanish - Castellano) is the main language in Madrid, being the capital of Spain. Because of the large amount of tourists and Madrid's international business reputation, English is widely understood.
However, not everyone speaks it, and you'll find people are much more appreciative (and probably give you better service) if you try and muddle through with a bit of Spanish. |
